Three individuals were transported to Christchurch Hospital following a serious two-vehicle collision in North Canterbury on Saturday. Emergency services responded to the crash shortly after midday at the intersection of Stokes and Balcairn Amberley roads in Balcairn, Hurunui.

The incident resulted in damage to a power pole and left one vehicle stranded on the nearby railway line. Fire and Emergency New Zealand personnel assisted in removing the car from the tracks, and KiwiRail was notified of the disruption.

The response included three ambulances and an air ambulance helicopter. One occupant was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries, while two others were transported by ambulance—one in serious condition and another with moderate injuries. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the cause of the crash.
