Boston International secured a third consecutive Boston City League title with a narrow 1-0 victory over Latin Academy at Madison Park Field. The decisive goal came in the 78th minute, breaking a scoreless deadlock in a tightly contested match.

The opening half saw both teams exchange chances, but neither side managed to find the net. Latin Academy (8-4-5) struggled to generate high-quality shots, while Boston International (9-6-3), known as the Lions, grappled with inconsistent passing throughout the game. “It took us a little while to wake up,” said Boston International coach Edmar Varela.

Early in the second half, Latin Academy took command, mounting aggressive attacks through crosses and corner kicks. Despite maintaining possession and creating several scoring opportunities, they were unable to convert. Boston International’s sophomore goalkeeper Jeffrey Louis made several crucial diving saves amid heavy pressure, prompting audible reactions from the sidelines.

The lone and decisive goal stemmed from sustained possession deep in Latin Academy’s half. Junior Mahmoud Al delivered a precise pass to sophomore Aboubacarr Krubally, who capitalized by firing the ball into the net. “It was a great pass,” Krubally said. “I just had to score.”

The victory marks Boston International’s third straight city league championship and their fifth overall. Varela credited the team’s perseverance, noting the many challenges they have overcome this season. “There have been a lot of hurdles, a lot of obstacles, but we found a way to succeed,” he said. “All we needed was a goal. I told the guys it was way too close.”

Boston International’s season continues with a final game against Boston Latin on Monday. Despite their strong performance and a power ranking position that would position them among the top seeds in the division 5 tournament, the Lions are barred from the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association postseason. This ineligibility stems from the accumulation of too many disciplinary cards during the regular season.
