Ryan Seenanan and Julie Amber Koontz’s friendship, forged in a telecommunications office in North Carolina, evolved into a lasting partnership through shared grief and growing affection. The couple’s journey began in April 2019 at Walker and Associates—now known as Netceed—in Lexington, N.C., where they first bonded as coworkers.

Neither was seeking romance at the time. Koontz was married and focusing on starting a family with her husband, Landon, while Seenanan was recently single and not interested in dating. Their initial connection blossomed through frequent interactions and shared interests, including cooking and marine biology. Koontz became pregnant in August 2019, and her son Tate was born in April 2020. However, pandemic-related remote work impeded their in-person contact.

Over the following months, Koontz’s marriage deteriorated, leading to a legal separation from Landon in October 2021. In January 2022, Landon died by suicide, a loss Koontz described as devastating and difficult to process. Seenanan, based in Netceed’s Winston-Salem, N.C. office, became a steady presence during this difficult period. The two reconnected in the office under a hybrid work schedule, with Seenanan offering support without pressuring Koontz.

By mid-2022, their relationship began to shift from friendship to something deeper. In July, Seenanan invited Koontz for drinks, and the two spent several hours reconnecting and sharing personal struggles. This outing marked the beginning of their romantic relationship, culminating in a first kiss shortly after a second meeting at Koontz’s home.

Their partnership quickly solidified. Seenanan grew close to Tate, who was six years old at the time, and by the fall of 2022, Koontz moved into a new home in High Point, N.C. Seenanan joined her there in September 2023. Koontz also transitioned into a new role working remotely for her sister, Jen Hamilton, a labor and delivery nurse and author.

The couple became engaged in September 2025 during an Alaska cruise with Tate. At Icy Strait Point, Hoonah, Seenanan proposed with an oval diamond ring against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean. The wedding took place on August 22, 2026, at a private residence in Port Orchard, Wash., overlooking Puget Sound. The ceremony, officiated by a friend ordained through the American Marriage Ministries, was attended by 20 guests. The celebration concluded with dinner, a magician’s performance, and a gathering around a fire pit where guests roasted s’mores as the sun set.

Seenanan, 30, originally from the Bronx and Lexington, and Koontz, 30, from Asheboro, have since built their lives together, blending family, friendship, and shared experiences born from loss and resilience.
