An international seminar on advances in camel sciences was held recently at Thumbay Medicity, bringing together scientists, veterinarians, and industry experts to discuss developments in camel health, reproduction, surgery, and rehabilitation. The event was organised by Thumbay College of Veterinary Medicine and Gulf Medical University, in partnership with Dubai Camel Hospital and Dubai Camel Reproduction Center.
The seminar, which took place in the United Arab Emirates, was attended by Chief Guest Dr Sheikh Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Ruler’s Court in Ajman, alongside Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group. It served as a platform for clinicians, researchers, reproduction specialists, surgeons, and rehabilitation professionals to exchange knowledge on improving camel care and advancing related scientific research.
In the UAE, camels hold significant cultural and economic importance. They contribute to traditional practices such as racing, support industries like camel milk production, and play roles in tourism and food security. The event also provided an opportunity for veterinary students and early-career professionals to engage directly with experienced practitioners, fostering the next generation of specialists in the field.
During the seminar, twelve prominent figures from various sectors—including government, research institutions, veterinary hospitals, industry stakeholders, law enforcement, and academia—were recognised for their contributions to veterinary science and animal health.
Attendees were given a preview of the forthcoming Thumbay Veterinary Hospital, currently under construction, which aims to expand veterinary services and education.
The programme concluded with announcements of upcoming educational initiatives. Gulf Medical University’s veterinary college will host AnimalPro, an international conference on companion animal medicine scheduled for November 10 and 11, 2026. This event is being organised in collaboration with Nita-Farm, GOZL UAE & Oman, and Zoofilorm.
Additionally, the college introduced two new practical certificate courses focused on equine skills. Developed with Dubai Equine Hospital, the Equi-Aid course will address emergency first aid and stabilisation for horses, while Hoof-Pro is designed to teach farriery and hoof care techniques. These initiatives aim to enhance practical training and professional development within the veterinary community.
