Oklahoma City Thunder guard Jalen Williams will undergo surgery to repair a fractured left fibula and a dislocated left ankle, the team announced Monday. Williams sustained the injury late in the Thunder’s 108-101 home victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, suffering the injury on a drive with 1:14 remaining in the game. Medical personnel responded immediately as Williams went down underneath the basket, and the game was paused for about five minutes while he was attended to and eventually stretchered off the court.

General manager Sam Presti said there is no definitive timetable for Williams’ return at this point, with a recovery schedule to be determined following surgery. Given the nature of the injury, experts indicate that Williams could potentially miss the remainder of the season. Presti described Williams as “an elite competitor” and noted his toughness.

Williams, a former All-Star and All-NBA honoree, has been a key contributor to the Thunder since entering the league. He has averaged 17.9 points across 251 games in his first five seasons and played a significant role in Oklahoma City’s 2025 NBA championship run and their appearance in the 2026 Western Conference finals. However, he missed 49 games last season due to hamstring issues and recovery from wrist surgery, and also sat out portions of the playoffs due to similar injury concerns.

The Thunder also announced that forward Cason Wallace will require surgery to repair a left labral tear sustained in the same game against the Clippers. Like Williams, Wallace’s rehabilitation timeline will be established post-surgery, with such injuries typically necessitating several months of recovery.

Despite the injuries, Oklahoma City remained undefeated early in the season. In Sunday’s game, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 34 points, while Ajay Mitchell added 18 off the bench. The Clippers were led by Darius Garland with 16 points and Kris Dunn and Brook Lopez, who each scored 15. Los Angeles briefly narrowed the gap late in the game but was unable to overtake the Thunder.

The Thunder began the season as one of the favorites to contend for the NBA title alongside the San Antonio Spurs, making these injury setbacks particularly significant for the team’s outlook. The team will now look to adjust without two of their key players as they await further updates following their respective surgeries.
