Tigerlily Taylor, daughter of Queen drummer Roger Taylor and founder of the nail brand Claws, expressed frustration after her car was towed due to parking restrictions implemented for the annual Polo in the Park event held last weekend near The Hurlingham private members’ club in London. Taylor, 31, claimed she received no prior notification about the changes and was unable to park outside her own residence because the local council had designated her road for event attendees.
The event, which attracts a fashionable crowd including figures from "Made in Chelsea," prompted Hammersmith and Fulham Council to impose temporary parking restrictions in the area. Taylor criticized the council’s handling of the situation, describing it as “the worst council I’ve dealt with” and complaining about the lack of communication. “Apparently, I’m not allowed to park on my own road because Hammersmith and Fulham have rented out the road to people going to polo,” she said.
However, some residents dispute Taylor’s account, indicating that the council provides clear and timely announcements about parking changes. One local told reporters that the community receives multiple leaflets warning of the restrictions up to two months in advance. The resident added that the event has been held for five years, giving people ample opportunity to adjust their parking habits. “I’ve not heard of anyone being towed before. It’s a bit stupid for someone to leave their car there,” the source said, noting that they personally move their car on polo day every year. The council, they added, is active in communicating with residents through various channels including emails and leaflets.
Hammersmith and Fulham Council enforces a penalty of up to £280 for towing vehicles during the event, which critics say adds to frustrations for residents who find themselves unable to use their usual parking spots. Taylor’s experience highlights a tension between event management and local resident convenience, with some residents accepting the rules and others, like Taylor, feeling unfairly targeted or inadequately informed.
Polo in the Park is a high-profile summer event known for its upscale social scene. While intended as a posh gathering, the temporary road closures and parking controls continue to provoke mixed reactions among members of the surrounding community.
