British rapper Tinie Tempah has released his first album in nine years, "The Night’s Not Dead," which arrives amid a period of creative renewal and personal growth. The London-born artist, known for his breakthrough 2010 hit "Pass Out," also revealed an unreleased collaboration with singer Adele dating back to the era of his hit "Earthquake" featuring Labrinth.
In an interview, Tinie Tempah described how Adele was present during the recording of "Earthquake," and the two experimented with a rap verse inspired by Nicki Minaj’s style, though the track never officially surfaced. Asked about the possibility of releasing an anniversary edition including Adele’s contribution, he expressed cautious optimism, pending clearance.
"The Night’s Not Dead" explores a range of dance and house music styles, embracing disco influences, and serves as a tribute to the UK’s club culture. Tinie Tempah expressed concern about the decline of live music venues, noting that approximately 30 clubs have closed in the UK this year. Reflecting on his early career, he highlighted the role of small clubs and venues in building his audience, lamenting the cultural loss their disappearance represents. He called for protective measures similar to those implemented in Berlin, where the city’s techno scene has been recognized by UNESCO. According to Tinie, many British electronic genres, including drum and bass, dubstep, garage, and bassline house, have originated in these settings before gaining international prominence.
Beyond music, Tinie Tempah has spent the past several years diversifying his professional activities. Since his last album release in 2017, he has become a Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion, launched a music publishing company that has worked with prominent artists such as Drake, Chris Brown, and Alicia Keys, and taken on television roles including hosting and guest entrepreneurship on business-focused shows. He also established a recording studio in South London and has been involved in philanthropic efforts through the King’s Trust.
Tinie Tempah is preparing for a European tour next month, which will include venues across the UK. Though uncertain about whether royal family members will attend, he noted that the King’s sons have been fans and attended some of his shows. He also spoke about his children, expressing openness to whichever paths they choose, while providing them with a broad range of experiences including sports and academics.
Looking ahead, Tinie Tempah emphasized his desire to remain creatively engaged and maintain a balance of health and happiness, signalling an intention to produce new music without a long hiatus.
