British rapper Tinie Tempah is set to release his fourth studio album this October, marking his return to the music scene after a nine-year hiatus. Tinie, who rose to prominence with 14 UK Top Ten hits including seven number ones since his 2010 debut single "Pass Out," shared details of his comeback during a backstage interview at Leeds’ new Roundhay Festival.

His last album, "Youth," was released in 2017, and since then, Tinie has been focusing on recording new material and reintroducing his music in live sets. Alongside his announcement, the artist expressed a renewed commitment to supporting grassroots music venues, which he credits as vital to nurturing emerging talent. Last month, he performed at The Brook, a small venue in Southampton, alongside Rizzle Kicks in an effort to raise awareness about the ongoing challenges facing intimate music spaces.

Tinie highlighted the importance of preserving these venues, noting shifts in cultural and social habits, as well as the decline of clubs and small venues, which he fears may threaten the next generation of artists. “As Brits, every ten years we come to the forefront with a new genre, whether it’s garage, grime, or dubstep,” he said, emphasizing the role of these spaces in incubating new sounds and talent. He acknowledged the current challenges confronting the nightlife industry but defended its cultural significance and the community it fosters. “Clubbing can get a lot of negative connotations, but it’s a space where people from different backgrounds come together and feel free,” he remarked. “Knowing that I’ve soundtracked someone’s night is a beautiful thing.”

The Roundhay Festival also featured Atlanta-based rapper Lil Jon, who energized the crowd with a diverse set including an unexpected cover of Neil Diamond’s "Sweet Caroline." Lil Jon praised the enthusiastic response from the audience and shared his fondness for British culture. He is set to perform alongside Pitbull, the festival’s headliner, at the upcoming British Summer Time event in London’s Hyde Park. The two artists have a longstanding professional relationship, dating back 25 years, including a major tour they shared with Eminem and 50 Cent in the early 2000s.

Lil Jon revealed plans to attempt a Guinness World Record at Hyde Park for the most bald heads gathered in one place, in tribute to Pitbull’s distinctive look. He joked about surprising Pitbull by appearing on stage wearing a bald cap. The Summer Time festival performance is anticipated to be a highlight of the UK’s summer music calendar.
