The Florida Panthers have acquired forward Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators in a high-profile trade finalized Sunday, reuniting the two brothers Brady and Matthew Tkachuk on the same NHL team. The deal sends four draft picks from Florida to Ottawa, including the ninth overall selection in this year’s draft, Tampa Bay’s first-round pick this year (previously acquired by Florida), and additional picks in 2027 and 2029.

Brady Tkachuk, 26, spent his entire eight-year NHL career with Ottawa, where he was the team captain and a leading scorer. Last season, he tallied 22 goals and 37 assists in 60 games. Under contract through the 2027-28 season, he is signed to a seven-year agreement worth $57.5 million that includes a no-movement clause. Despite his leadership role and allegiance to Ottawa, Tkachuk reportedly provided a list of preferred trade destinations topped by Florida, Vegas, Carolina, and Minnesota, notably not including the Boston Bruins, who had been frequently linked to him in trade speculation.

The trade brings Brady to Florida, where his brother Matthew has played the last four seasons. Matthew Tkachuk has been a key contributor to the Panthers’ recent success, including two Stanley Cup championships and three finals appearances. The brothers also have a history of playing together on international stages, winning silver at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and a gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics — the first for the United States men’s hockey team in 46 years. They also co-host a podcast and have expressed enthusiasm about playing side-by-side at the NHL level.

For Ottawa, the trade provides a haul of high-value draft capital aimed at bolstering the team’s rebuilding efforts. In addition to the first-round picks, Ottawa received a second-round pick set for 2030, enhancing their future assets. The Senators drafted Brady Tkachuk fourth overall in 2018, and he leaves as the franchise’s leader in multiple statistical categories, including goals, points, power-play goals, shots, and penalty minutes.

Florida’s roster remains intact among its top scorers, as the team looks to maintain its competitive core. The Panthers have also secured long-term deals with key players such as Aleksander Barkov, Aaron Ekblad, and Sam Reinhart.

The deal comes amid other NHL moves this offseason, including the Seattle Kraken acquiring forward Mackie Samoskevich from Florida in exchange for draft picks, and subsequent contract extensions by Seattle for Bobby McMann and by Edmonton for Jason Dickinson. These transactions reflect continued roster adjustments as teams prepare for the upcoming season.
