North Queensland Cowboys co-captain and Kangaroos halfback Tom Dearden has reaffirmed his commitment to the club, dismissing ongoing speculation that he might seek a release from his contract. Dearden confirmed he will remain with the Cowboys at least through the end of the 2029 season, reinforcing statements he has made earlier this year.

In a recent interview, Dearden addressed the swirling rumors that had intensified following the birth of his first child, Dolly June Dearden, on October 23. The timing of the announcement, just days before he helped lead Australia to a victory over Fiji, sparked conjecture about a potential move to Sydney to be closer to his partner, Millie Oliver. However, Dearden clarified that Oliver intends to move to Townsville, where he continues to focus on his career and family life.

“Nothing has changed from what I’ve said in a few interviews now, I’m not going anywhere, I’m at the Cowboys,” Dearden stated. He acknowledged the heightened speculation around contract discussions leading up to November 1—the usual deadline for player decisions—but maintained that his position remains steady amid the “circus.”

Since joining the Cowboys mid-season in 2021, Dearden, 25, has accumulated 118 appearances and established himself as a key playmaker and leader within the team. His performances have earned him a reputation as one of the NRL’s standout halfbacks and positioned him as a valuable asset for North Queensland.

Dearden’s current deal includes a clause that could elevate his annual salary to $1.8 million from the 2028 season onward, potentially placing him among the highest-paid players in the league. Despite the lucrative offers reportedly circulating elsewhere, Dearden’s comments suggest his priority lies with the Cowboys and maintaining continuity within the club.

The North Queensland co-captain emphasized that he focuses solely on his commitments to the team and avoids getting caught up in external noise surrounding contract speculation. His declarations signal a clear intention to remain a central figure at the Cowboys as they prepare for the upcoming seasons.
