Tom Grennan, the British singer-songwriter known for three No. 1 albums and multiple top ten singles, is preparing to release a new album next year with a renewed focus on artistic authenticity. Reflecting on his decade-long music career, Grennan acknowledged feeling disconnected from his work during earlier stages, saying he had been writing primarily for commercial success rather than personal expression.

Raised in Bedford and initially pursuing drama and physical theatre at university, Grennan’s path into music was unconventional. He gained early experience performing at open mic nights, including one at The Finsbury pub in North London, a venue that recently hosted several intimate shows to preview his upcoming material. Unlike many artists who rely heavily on publicity teams, Grennan maintains a grounded approach, sharing new tracks with close friends for candid feedback.

Throughout his career, Grennan has sold approximately 1.5 million records but admits to encountering challenges common in the music industry. Now sober and a married father of one, he described his current state as more focused and emotionally centred. “I’ve been there, done that,” he said of earlier stages marked by partying and excess. “What I was looking for was peace of mind, so I went and got it.”

The forthcoming album, which has yet to be titled, will feature the lead single “Wrapped In Gold.” This track explores themes of nostalgia and mindfulness, with lyrics touching on lost memories and appreciating the present moment. Other new songs debuted recently include “Echoes Of A Boy,” performed emotionally before an audience of about 200, and “Under The Same Skies,” an open letter to his one-year-old daughter Dotty. Grennan described the album as a personal message to his daughter, expressing hopes that she will one day see it as a reflection of their bond.

Becoming a father has, according to Grennan, opened new emotional avenues in his songwriting. “She really has helped out with this album,” he remarked. “I want it to be a bit of a letter to her and also for her to look back on in many years’ time and go, ‘That was my album.’” He added he feels pride in the work and hopes his daughter will share that sentiment.

Grennan’s upcoming album marks a departure from the pursuit of chart success to a more authentic and introspective artistic phase, reflecting his personal growth and life changes over recent years.
