Tom Grennan is preparing to release a new album that directly addresses his battles with addiction and sobriety, marking a significant personal and artistic milestone for the Bedford singer. Speaking backstage at the Isle of Wight Festival ahead of his headline performance on the Big Top stage last Friday, Grennan described the project as the most authentic work he has produced to date.
The forthcoming album, which remains untitled, reflects Grennan’s ongoing journey toward self-understanding and recovery. Having achieved complete sobriety in 2025 after struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, the artist said the record candidly explores themes of hope, courage, and truth. “Sobriety is actually understanding who I am, and the demons I’ve got,” he explained. “I’m still on that journey, and I will be for the rest of my life, but I’m at a good place.”
Grennan, 31, whose last album, Everywhere I Went, Led Me to Where I Didn’t Want to Be, earned him his third Number One record last year, credits fatherhood as a key motivator in his decision to embrace sobriety. He and his wife, Italian Pilates instructor Danniella Carraturo, married in 2024, welcomed their daughter the following year. “Fatherhood is amazing, it’s taught me a lot,” Grennan said. “I wanted to be the best dad. I don’t think I could’ve done that being in the place I was.”
The artist also noted that the creative process of this new album rekindled his passion for songwriting. After a period where he felt disconnected from making music, Grennan said he needed to rediscover “play” and reconnect with his younger self, which is a recurring motif on the album. “The album represents a little boy, and the little boy is me. It’s me trying to reconnect with that little boy,” he shared.
Recording took place primarily in a cottage in Hastings, where Grennan and his collaborators opted for a more organic sound, focusing on live instruments rather than electronic production. “The whole record is very organic. It’s not polished pop. We set up a studio in front of the fire, went through all the seasons – winter, spring, summer – and created this amazing album,” he said.
Following a recent arena tour, Grennan delivered a dynamic set at the Isle of Wight Festival, blending gospel, disco, soul pop, and funk elements. Looking ahead, he expressed interest in performing at the Glastonbury Festival in 2027, acknowledging he would not have been ready this year but hopes to be invited next year.
