Tom Hardy’s future on the Paramount+ series MobLand remains uncertain amid ongoing negotiations with the show's producers following his decision to step away from the project. The 48-year-old actor, who portrays Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan crime family, initially opted to leave due to recurring delays in filming the third season and disputes over the production schedule.
Sources report that Paramount+ executives have engaged in talks with Hardy over the past two weeks in an attempt to persuade him to return. The streaming service was reportedly surprised by the significant viewer backlash after Hardy’s announced departure, which prompted a reassessment of their position. According to insiders, the strong audience attachment to Hardy’s character has created pressure within the production, with some describing the situation as a “huge crisis” and stating that the series’ continuation is seen by many as contingent on his involvement.
Hardy’s commitment to his family appears to be a key factor in his hesitation. He and his wife, actress Charlotte Riley, are said to be planning an extended hiatus from work to focus on their two children, aged 11 and six. The actor was reportedly frustrated by the persistent delays in filming caused by scriptwriting issues, which he viewed as interfering with his personal priorities.
The character of Harry Da Souza was left unresolved at the conclusion of the second season, leaving production on hold for at least a month as negotiations continue. MobLand, which also features Dame Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, has faced additional challenges behind the scenes. Earlier this year, reports emerged of strained relations between Hardy and Mirren during the filming of the second series, with Mirren allegedly expressing frustration over Hardy’s punctuality and attitude on set. Hardy has not publicly addressed these claims.
As talks remain ongoing, it is unclear whether Hardy will return to MobLand or if the series will proceed without him. The outcome of these discussions will be closely watched by both industry observers and the show’s audience.
