Quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who was permanently ruled ineligible by the NCAA due to sports betting violations, will not have the opportunity to launch his professional football career in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The CFL announced Friday that the 22-year-old will be barred from signing with any of its teams or being listed on their negotiation rosters.

Sorsby admitted to placing nearly $90,000 in bets across thousands of wagers during his collegiate career, including at least 40 bets on Indiana football games during his freshman year in 2022. None of these bets involved games in which he played for the Hoosiers. Following the NCAA’s permanent ineligibility ruling, Sorsby sought to enter the NFL through its supplemental draft. However, the NFL informed him Tuesday that no supplemental draft will be held this year. Instead, the league advised Sorsby to prepare for eligibility in the regular NFL draft scheduled for 2027, according to a letter obtained by news outlets.

On the same day, the Wizards will also feature No. 2 pick Darryn Peterson. The Memphis Grizzlies, who hold the No. 3 pick Cameron Boozer, will face the Chicago Bulls and their No. 4 pick Caleb Wilson on July 10. All 76 Summer League games will be broadcast on Prime Video and ESPN platforms.

Meanwhile, the New York Knicks are poised to retain guard Jose Alvarado, who helped the team secure an NBA championship last season. Alvarado declined his player option and is negotiating a multiyear contract reportedly worth over $14 million. The deal has not yet been finalized, but sources familiar with the talks confirmed the arrangement. Acquired midseason from New Orleans, Alvarado, a Brooklyn native and Christ the King High School alumnus, primarily served as a backup to star guard Jalen Brunson.

Williams has not played singles since a third-round loss at the 2022 US Open. On the men’s side, No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner is scheduled to begin his title defense against Miomir Kecmanovic on Centre Court Monday. Sinner and 7th seed Novak Djokovic are positioned in the same half of the draw, setting up a possible semifinal encounter.
