More than 860,000 motorists in New South Wales have received a combined total of $284 million in toll relief since the state government introduced a $60 weekly toll cap in January 2024. The initiative aims to alleviate rising living costs by limiting the amount drivers pay for tolls each week.

Since the cap’s implementation, over 58 suburbs have each claimed more than $1 million in total cashback, with some areas receiving upwards of $4 million. This widespread uptake highlights the significant financial impact the scheme has had across various communities.

The toll relief program has also seen increased participation this year compared to 2023. An additional $10 million in claims have been lodged by more than 9,200 drivers so far in 2024, reflecting a growing awareness and utilization of the cap.

The government’s toll cap is part of broader measures to support households facing higher expenses, particularly as fuel prices and general living costs remain elevated. By restricting weekly toll charges to $60, authorities aim to provide consistent and measurable relief to regular road users, especially in suburban areas with heavy toll use.

The program’s success is evident in the rapid accumulation of cashback claims and the large number of suburbs benefiting substantially from the relief. Officials continue to encourage eligible motorists to claim their rebates to reduce the financial burden associated with toll road travel across New South Wales.
