Top golfers from around the world are set to compete at the Maybank Championship, scheduled to take place from October 29 to November 1 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) in Malaysia. The tournament features a prize purse of US$3 million (RM12.3 million) and promises a highly competitive field vying for the prestigious Tiger Trophy.

Among the headliners is defending champion Miyu Yamashita of Japan, who has demonstrated exceptional form throughout the season. Her recent achievements include a commanding nine-stroke victory at the CPKC Women’s Open in Canada in August and a playoff win at the Sony JLPGA Championship in Japan in September. Yamashita’s consistent performance marks her as a strong contender to retain the title.

Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul, currently ranked world No. 2, will also be in the mix. Thitikul has enjoyed a successful 2026 campaign with three LPGA Tour wins, bringing her career total to 10 titles. She returns to Malaysia for the fourth consecutive year, aiming to claim the Tiger Trophy after narrowly missing out on the title in previous editions. Accompanying her is close friend and 2024 Maybank Championship winner Yin Ruoning of China, a Major champion who recently secured victory at the FM Championship in August.

South Korean golfer Ryu Hae-ran is another player to watch. She is currently positioned second on the LPGA Tour’s Race to CME Globe leaderboard, bolstered by back-to-back Major wins this year at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the Amundi Evian Championship.

The field is further strengthened by notable competitors such as English golfers Lottie Woad and Charley Hull, as well as Japanese twins Akie and Chisato Iwai. Their participation adds depth and international appeal to the tournament.

Local interest will be high, with five Malaysian players competing for home pride. Liyana Dusrić, who advanced through the ASEAN qualifier, arrives in strong form after securing four PGM Tour titles this year. Joining her are Mirabel Ting, Jeneath Wong, Natasha Andrea Oon, and Kelly Tan. Mirabel Ting, who has earned her place on the LPGA Tour, will look to capitalize on familiar surroundings to maintain her competitive momentum.

The Maybank Championship is expected to showcase a compelling mix of emerging talent and established stars, underscoring the growing stature of women's professional golf in Southeast Asia.
