Torquay United overturned a deficit to secure a commanding 5-1 victory over Slough Town in their encounter on Saturday. The match saw a dramatic shift in momentum, particularly after Slough was reduced to ten men just before halftime.
The Gulls started the game on the front foot, with early attempts from Cody Cooke and Sean Robertson testing the Slough defense. Despite these early efforts, Slough Town’s defensive resilience limited Torquay to few clear-cut chances for much of the first half. The visitors’ situation worsened when Dennis Adeniran received a second yellow card just before the break, forcing Slough to play with a numerical disadvantage in the second half.
Shortly after the hour mark, Slough Town regained the lead through a penalty awarded after Dan Hayfield was judged to have fouled Kyle Brooks. Saikou Janneh, formerly on loan at Torquay, successfully converted from the spot, putting the Rebels ahead 1-0. However, Torquay responded quickly. Substitute Matt Jay netted an equalizer within a minute of entering the field, restoring parity for the Gulls.
The momentum shifted further in Torquay’s favor around the 70-minute mark when another substitute, Callum Morton, capitalized on a rebound following a shot by Angelo Cappello that was saved by Slough goalkeeper Killian Barrett. Morton’s goal put the Gulls ahead for the first time in the match.
Torquay extended their lead in the closing stages, with Morton setting up Beaumont-Clarke for a goal in the 87th minute. Shortly after, Luke Browne, a Notts County loanee, scored his first goal for Torquay, connecting well following another assist from Morton. Beaumont-Clarke then completed his brace in stoppage time to seal the emphatic 5-1 win.
The result marked a significant turnaround for Torquay United, who overcame early difficulties to dominate the latter stages against ten-man Slough Town at their home ground.
