Torquay United extended their winless run at home after being held to a 1-1 draw by Hampton & Richmond Borough in a National League South match on Saturday. Despite creating several opportunities, the Gulls were unable to secure their first home victory of the season at Plainmoor.

The opening goal came in the 22nd minute when Torquay capitalized on a defensive lapse from Hampton. Deon Moore pressured the visitors’ backline and forced an error as goalkeeper Marco Underwood rushed off his line. Although Moore’s initial shot was blocked, teammate Cody Cooke was quick to react and scored from the rebound, giving the home side an early lead.

Torquay continued to threaten throughout the first half. Moore had a chance to extend the lead after connecting with a cross from Sonny Blu Lo-Everton but missed the target with a header. He later dispossessed Hampton defender Luis Fernandez and broke clear for a one-on-one with Underwood, who managed to parry his shot behind, denying a second goal before halftime.

In the second half, new signing Jacob Beaumont-Clark featured on his Gulls debut as a substitute but missed a long-range attempt just after the hour mark. Torquay maintained pressure on Hampton’s defense, with Jake Wannell seeing a header cleared off the line in the 72nd minute. Beaumont-Clark and Jordan Young both came close to scoring as well, with Young’s free kick saved by Underwood for a corner.

However, Hampton & Richmond Borough fought back to level the score, securing a share of the points. The draw leaves Torquay still searching for a first home victory this season as they aim to improve their standing in the National League South.
