Lord Alan Haselhurst, a longtime Conservative parliamentarian, passed away in June at the age of 88, leaving an estate valued at approximately £1.2 million. His widow, Lady Angela Haselhurst, is the sole beneficiary of his estate.
Lord Haselhurst’s political career spanned more than four decades. He first entered Parliament as the member for Middleton and Prestwich in 1970, serving until 1974. He later represented the Essex constituency of Saffron Walden from 1977 until his retirement in 2017. His successor in Saffron Walden was Conservative MP Kemi Badenoch.
In recognition of his service, he was knighted in 1995 and elevated to the peerage in 2018 as Baron Haselhurst. He remained active in the House of Lords until his retirement in 2024.
Following his death, Ms. Badenoch paid tribute to Lord Haselhurst’s deep knowledge of North West Essex and his dedication to the local community. She noted his affection for the area’s villages and residents.
Outside politics, Lord Haselhurst had a passion for cricket and authored several comic novels centered on the sport. He is survived by his widow and their three children, two sons and a daughter.
