Toyota and Mohamed Naser Al Sayer & Sons Est. Co. W.L.L officially launched the all-new Land Cruiser FJ in Kuwait City on September 16, introducing a new addition to the Land Cruiser lineup. The unveiling event took place at the Grand Avenue in Avenues Mall, with attendance by senior Toyota executives, senior management from ALSAYER, and prominent social media influencers.
The Land Cruiser FJ is positioned alongside existing models such as the Land Cruiser 300, Land Cruiser 70, and Land Cruiser Prado, expanding the range with a smaller, more maneuverable vehicle designed under the concept of "Freedom & Joy." The new model aims to combine the traditional Land Cruiser traits of reliability, durability, and off-road performance with a compact and agile form, appealing to customers with diverse lifestyles and driving needs.
Since Toyota’s original BJ model was introduced in 1951, the Land Cruiser series has cultivated a global reputation for dependable off-road capability and longevity, with cumulative sales totaling approximately 12.4 million units across more than 190 countries. The Land Cruiser FJ continues this legacy by offering a vehicle that maintains the core character of the nameplate while enhancing ease of use in urban and rugged environments.
The Land Cruiser FJ features a shortened wheelbase of 2,580 mm—270 mm less than the Land Cruiser Prado—resulting in a minimum turning radius of 5.5 meters, facilitating more confident maneuvering on tight roads and technical off-road trails. Structural enhancements include additional floor braces and the use of high-tensile steel, aimed at improving lateral rigidity and ride comfort without compromising strength. Despite its reduced size, the vehicle preserves essential off-road geometry, including ground clearance and approach and departure angles suited for challenging terrain. Wheel articulation matches that of the Land Cruiser 70 series to maintain tire contact on uneven surfaces.
Powering the Land Cruiser FJ is a naturally aspirated 2.7-liter petrol engine producing 120 kW (163 PS) and 246 Nm of torque, coupled with a six-speed Super ECT automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system. The suspension employs a double-wishbone front setup and a four-link rigid axle at the rear, balancing off-road capability with on-road comfort and stability.
The vehicle is offered in two grades—Mid and High—with features tailored to different customer preferences. Both grades prioritize essential Land Cruiser traits, while the High grade includes Toyota Safety Sense, an active safety package comprising systems such as the Pre-Collision Safety System, Lane Departure Alert, Panoramic View Monitor, and Blind Spot Monitor. These assistive technologies enhance driver awareness and confidence in various driving conditions.
Exterior design embraces a blend of functional Land Cruiser heritage and modern styling, featuring a boxy cabin shape for interior space and visibility, distinctive U-shaped headlamps and rear lights, and five monotone color options. The body measures 4,575 mm in length and 1,855 mm in width, promoting a stable stance and ease of maneuvering. Interior cargo capacity ranges from 795 liters with seats in place to 1,607 liters when rear seats are folded, supporting the vehicle’s versatility for work and leisure activities.
