Buyout firm TPG is on track to achieve a record fundraising year in 2026, raising its full-year target to more than $55 billion and amassing approximately $86 billion in uncommitted investment capital amid challenging conditions in the private-equity sector. The firm had initially aimed to secure over $50 billion across various strategies, but its executives reported nearly $42 billion raised through September and now anticipate surpassing $55 billion by the end of the year.

TPG Chief Executive Jon Winkelried attributed the strong capital inflows to investors’ recognition of significant structural trends, including increasing global power demand, the re-industrialization of major economies, and the restructuring of international supply chains, all of which are driving heightened capital needs.

Executives did not provide a specific fundraising target for 2027 but suggested the current momentum supports an annual fundraising range between $45 billion and $60 billion moving forward. Fund sizes within TPG’s latest fundraising cycle have increased by roughly 30% on average, according to Winkelried. The firm also expects to double its credit assets under management by the end of 2029.

The firm’s third-quarter results provide insight into how certain private-equity managers are adapting to market disruptions, including elevated interest rates and geopolitical tensions that have dampened deal activity. During the quarter ended September 30, TPG deployed approximately $11.5 billion in new investments, a 23% decline from $14.9 billion invested during the same period a year earlier. The firm’s realizations from investment sales fell 15% to $6.6 billion compared with the prior-year quarter.

Despite these headwinds, TPG reported a 24% increase in after-tax distributable earnings, a key measure of cash available for return to investors, amounting to $265 million or 65 cents per share for the quarter. Fee-related earnings expanded 43% to $321 million, while net income rose 48% to $99.6 million, or 41 cents per share, year over year. Revenue remained stable at approximately $1.22 billion, supported by increases in management, monitoring, and related fees.

At the end of the third quarter, TPG’s assets under management reached nearly $346 billion, representing a 21% increase compared with the same period in 2025. The results reflect the firm’s capacity to maintain fundraising strength and operational growth despite broader market volatility affecting the private-equity industry.
