An investigation into the train derailment near Wickford, Essex, on August 14 has identified track misalignment as a contributing factor. The Greater Anglia service, carrying 62 passengers and traveling at approximately 77 mph, left the rails but did not overturn. No injuries were reported.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) reviewed CCTV footage from the train and confirmed a visible misalignment at the location where the train driver reported observing a “kink” in the track prior to the derailment. The driver’s prompt report was noted as part of the investigation findings.

The incident occurred on a London-bound service operated by Greater Anglia. While the train stayed upright and passengers were unharmed, the derailment raised concerns about track conditions and maintenance procedures.
