A transgender employee has filed a lawsuit against NBCUniversal and Universal Studios in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging a pattern of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wrongful termination. The complaint, submitted last week, seeks compensatory and punitive damages but does not specify an exact amount.

According to the lawsuit, Nikki Campus was hired by the entertainment companies in 2010 to assist with preparing and cleaning sound stages, moving equipment, and coordinating with production crews. Campus began transitioning to female in 2019 and reported experiencing derogatory comments from colleagues. The complaint includes an allegation that a co-worker described Campus’ transition as an “abomination” and suggested discussing it with a pastor.

The lawsuit identifies Charles Woods, who became Campus’ supervisor in 2022, as the individual responsible for escalating the alleged misconduct. In 2023, Campus claims Woods made inappropriate remarks about her body and propositioned her for sex, stating he was “not opposed” to cheating on his wife. Campus said she was overwhelmed and removed herself from the situation.

Afterward, the complaint alleges that Woods and NBCUniversal engaged in retaliatory actions. Campus states she was denied a promotion to department head in November 2025 and experienced a reduction in work hours from full-time to part-time the following month. The lawsuit characterizes these measures as punitive responses to her rejection of Woods’ advances.

NBCUniversal has been contacted for comment but has not responded publicly as of this writing. The case highlights ongoing concerns about workplace harassment and discrimination, particularly involving transgender employees, within the entertainment industry.
