Sydney native Travis Bazzana played a pivotal role as the Cleveland Guardians secured an 8-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Sunday at Houston’s Daikin Park. The 23-year-old rookie second baseman delivered an exceptional performance, going 4-for-4 at the plate, including two home runs, and driving in five runs.
Bazzana opened the game with a leadoff home run off Astros pitcher Spencer Arrighetti, sending the ball 382 feet over the right-center field wall. He followed that with a base hit in the third inning before launching a three-run homer in the fifth, again off Arrighetti, this time 406 feet to right-center field. Later, in the seventh inning, Bazzana added an RBI single on the first pitch from reliever Nate Pearson.
His performance marked the first instance since May 31, 2023, that a Cleveland player recorded four hits and five RBIs in a single game; Josh Naylor was the last to accomplish the feat against the Baltimore Orioles. Bazzana’s seventh home run of the season keeps him competitive among Australian MLB players, trailing closely behind fellow Australian Curtis Mead of the Washington Nationals, who has hit 11 homers so far this year.
