Phil Parkes, a former goalkeeper for Wolverhampton Wanderers, has died at the age of 79. Known by the nickname "Lofty" due to his height of 6 feet 4 inches, Parkes made a significant impact during his nearly two decades with the club, appearing in 382 matches before leaving in 1978.

During his tenure with Wolves, Parkes set a club record by making 127 consecutive league appearances in the early 1970s, a feat that contributed to his reputation as one of the greatest goalkeepers in the club’s history. Reflecting on his career in 2024, Parkes expressed a desire for his legacy to be remembered positively, stating that he hoped his time at Wolves would be recalled "with joy" and that he "loved playing for this football club" and "had a great time."

Following his departure from Wolves, Parkes continued his playing career in North America, joining teams such as the Vancouver Whitecaps and Chicago Sting.
