CLEVELAND — Rookie outfielder Carson Benge continued his impressive form as the New York Mets completed a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Guardians with a 13-6 victory on Thursday. Benge tallied three hits in six at-bats, including a crucial RBI triple that ricocheted off the left-center field fence in the third inning. Though his bid for a home run in each game of the series narrowly fell short, Benge’s performance marked his ninth three-hit game of the season, the most on the Mets roster.

Benge entered the series having homered in the previous two games and has now amassed 112 hits this season, ranking third among rookies behind Detroit’s Kevin McGonigle (118) and Colorado’s T.J. Rumfield (116). Interim manager Andy Green praised Benge’s approach at the plate, noting his ability to hit to all parts of the ballpark and exhibit consistent, professional at-bats despite his limited time in the majors.

“Professional at-bats. It’s like he’s been around for a while now instead of just four months,” Green said.

The Mets also benefited from strong bullpen performances as left-handed reliever Nate Lavender recorded two strikeouts over a scoreless sixth inning, marking his second consecutive scoreless outing since debuting in the major leagues. Kodai Senga contributed with a scoreless seventh inning in a high-leverage role, striking out two batters and touching 100 mph on his fastball.

Closer Devin Williams, who had been sidelined with arm fatigue a day earlier, was available to pitch but was not called upon as the Mets entered the ninth inning with a commanding seven-run lead.

Luis Torrens emerged as a significant offensive contributor throughout the series, hitting a home run—the second in three days—and compiling seven RBIs over the three games. His RBI total set a franchise high for the Mets in a three-game series this season and marked the highest since Juan Soto recorded seven RBIs against the Detroit Tigers in September of the previous year. Notably, all four of Torrens’ homers in 2026 have been go-ahead blasts.

Overall, New York’s nine home runs in the three-game series were their second most in any series this season, just behind the 10 homers they hit in a June series against the Chicago Cubs. The sweep over Cleveland adds momentum as the Mets continue their pursuit of postseason contention.
