PORTLAND, Ore. — Jessica Shepard recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists to lead the Dallas Wings to a 101-97 victory over the Portland Fire on Wednesday night. The Wings overcame a late surge from Portland to secure the win at the Moda Center.

Arike Ogunbowale paced Dallas with 24 points, while Paige Bueckers added 21. The Wings, now 18-9, had built a 12-point lead in the fourth quarter before Portland mounted their rally. The victory came just two days after Dallas suffered a narrow 99-98 loss at home to the New York Liberty, which ended their six-game winning streak.

Portland’s Megan DiLeo, formerly Megan Gustafson, contributed 21 points to lead the Fire (17-10). DiLeo recently celebrated her marriage in Iowa over the weekend. The Fire got close in the final minutes, with DiLeo driving for a layup and Karlie Samuelson hitting a three-pointer to trim the deficit to 91-88 with 2:34 remaining. Dallas responded with consecutive three-pointers from Azzi Fudd and Bueckers to push the lead back to 99-90 with just over a minute to play. Portland closed the gap again with a layup by DiLeo and a fast-break basket by Samuelson, reaching 99-97. Portland’s Bridget Carleton missed a potential game-winning jumper at the buzzer.

The Fire took an early 15-8 advantage, but the Wings rallied late in the first quarter to tie at 15-15 on Maddy Siegrist’s three-pointer and then took the lead on a Bueckers three. Dallas extended the lead to six points at one stage, but Portland’s Carla Leite’s layup gave the Fire a 42-40 advantage at halftime.

After intermission, Ogunbowale’s running layup put Dallas ahead 67-62, and the Wings held a 76-69 lead going into the fourth quarter. The game saw some injury concerns as Portland’s Sarah Ashlee Barker appeared to injure her left knee early in the first quarter and did not return.

Bueckers, who collided with Nneka Ogwumike during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Sparks and missed Monday’s matchup against New York, was questionable heading into this game but managed to start for Dallas. Prior to the game, Portland honored Bridget Carleton for her participation in the three-point contest held during Friday’s All-Star festivities. Azzi Fudd will also compete in the contest, alongside Toronto’s Marina Mabrey, Atlanta’s Rhyne Howard, Seattle’s Natisha Hiedeman, and Golden State’s Janelle Salaun.
