The national 3x3 men's basketball team concluded their campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with a 14-21 loss to Taiwan during the round robin stage, effectively ending their medal aspirations. Entering the tournament with hopes of securing a bronze, the team struggled to match the heightened intensity demonstrated by their opponents at the Kinjo Futo Station Square Venue.

Team manager Yeow Jie Xiang acknowledged the growing competitiveness of the 3x3 format and emphasized the need for a thorough reassessment of the national program. "Other teams have upped their intensity and we were not prepared for that," he said, noting that strategic changes would be necessary to address identified weaknesses.

The men's squad had invested considerable effort leading into the Games, participating in nearly 20 international events this year as part of an enhanced development strategy. While their campaign fell short of initial expectations, it represented progress compared to their previous performance at the Hangzhou Asian Games, where they failed to secure a win.

During the group stage, the team secured an opening victory of 18-15 against Hong Kong but then suffered defeats to China (14-22), Iran (7-21), and finally Taiwan. Looking ahead, Yeow indicated that the focus would shift toward preparations for the Asia Cup scheduled for March and the Southeast Asian Games set for September next year.

Meanwhile, the women’s 3x3 team also concluded their participation following a 9-13 loss to Japan in the final group phase game. After an undefeated start on the opening day, their chances of advancing were diminished following a key 12-17 loss to the Philippines in the third group match, which ultimately eliminated them from contention for the knockout rounds.
