Located at 129 Sixth Avenue in Brooklyn, Troubled Sleep is a compact bookstore that blends new and used titles with a distinctive European aesthetic. Drawing inspiration from Berlin’s independent bookshop scene, the store features mosaic tile floors, plywood shelving, and a carefully curated collection that includes international works and rare editions.
Despite its modest size, Troubled Sleep maximizes every inch of available space, including book racks mounted on the inside of the doors. The shop is noted for its robust mystery and noir section, as well as two glass cabinets showcasing first editions and collectible volumes. Visitors are also encouraged to check the outdoor dollar carts for bargain finds.
The store operates daily from noon until 7 p.m. and does not offer restroom facilities. Troubled Sleep aims to provide a distinctive, thoughtfully arranged literary experience in a neighborhood transitioning from Prospect Heights to Park Slope.
