SAN FRANCISCO — Mike Trout recorded his first four-hit game in over five years as the Los Angeles Angels defeated the San Francisco Giants 4-3 on Sunday, snapping a three-game losing streak and preventing a series sweep at Oracle Park.

Trout went four-for-four at the plate, including a double and three singles, marking his 21st career four-hit game and raising his batting average to .247. His double was his 340th career double with the Angels, moving him past Tim Salmon for second place on the franchise’s all-time doubles list behind Garret Anderson’s 489. Additionally, Trout reached 1,014 career singles with the team, placing him fourth in that category behind Anderson, Darin Erstad (1,082), and Brian Downing (1,062).

The Angels grabbed an early advantage as Jorge Soler opened the game with a leadoff home run. Nolan Schanuel followed with a walk, and Jo Adell extended the lead with a 446-foot homer in the fourth inning, putting Los Angeles ahead 4-0.

Starting pitcher José Soriano (9-6) provided five solid innings, allowing three hits and three walks with five strikeouts while yielding only an unearned run. Mets recalled Carson Whisenhunt (2-1) from triple-A Sacramento to start for the Giants; he surrendered four runs over five innings and struck out seven batters.

San Francisco's offense began to rally in the fifth inning with an RBI groundout by Luis Arraez. Arraez contributed again late in the game with a two-run double in the ninth, narrowing the deficit. Drew Cavanaugh added two hits and two walks for the Giants.

Relief pitcher Mitch Farris recorded the final two outs to secure his first career save and help the Angels avoid being swept in the three-game set. The Giants’ four-game home winning streak came to an end, and they remain the only Major League Baseball team this season without having been swept in a series of three or more games.
