President Donald Trump is set to present some of the nation’s leading technology executives with prestigious national honors during a ceremony scheduled at the “Science: A New Golden Age” summit, the White House announced on Wednesday.
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, will receive the National Medal of Science, one of the highest recognitions awarded to individuals for their contributions to science and technology. Joining Musk in receiving the medal are Google co-founder Sergei Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and AMD chief Lisa Su.
In addition, Michael Dell, founder of Dell Technologies, and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, will be honored with the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the highest accolade in the field of technological advancement.
A White House spokeswoman, Liz Huston, emphasized the Trump administration’s appreciation for the recipients’ roles in advancing U.S. leadership in innovation. She stated that these honorees are “helping ensure America keeps leading the world in innovation.”
Musk’s inclusion marks a notable reconciliation after a period of tension last year, which stemmed from his involvement with the cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency. He also figures prominently as the largest donor to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
Recent interactions between the awardees and President Trump reflect strong ties within the tech community. Musk and Huang attended a state dinner held for Chinese President Xi Jinping last month, while several tech leaders, including those honored, participated in high-level discussions at the White House last week focused on self-regulation efforts to address potential risks posed by artificial intelligence.
These awards highlight the administration’s efforts to strengthen relationships with influential technology leaders as part of its broader agenda to promote innovation and maintain a competitive edge in science and technology.
