Kimberly Guilfoyle resigned from her position as U.S. ambassador to Greece on Tuesday after being asked to step down by President Donald Trump amid multiple allegations of misconduct. Guilfoyle, a former Trump campaign surrogate and once engaged to Donald Trump Jr., has denied the accusations against her.
Reports indicate that Guilfoyle faced claims of offering to leverage her connections within the Trump administration in exchange for financial gain, adding her to a growing list of officials, family members, and associates tied to the president who have been scrutinized for potential conflicts of interest. This group includes President Trump and his sons, who have drawn criticism for profiting significantly from investments in sectors regulated by the administration, such as cryptocurrency and drone interception technology. Additionally, they have been accused of attempting to sell early access to President Trump’s posts on his social media platform.
Donald Trump Jr. has come under particular criticism related to his lavish Bahamas wedding, which was reportedly partially financed by a Russian oligarch with close ties to President Vladimir Putin. Separately, Jared Kushner, the president's son-in-law and a key figure in Middle East negotiations, has faced inquiries over business dealings, including involvement in Russian oil negotiations during efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and attempts to raise capital from Middle Eastern governments for his private investment firm.
The controversy extends to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and his son Brandon Lutnick, now chairman of financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald. They have been questioned about the firm’s acquisition of rights to refunds resulting from the dismantling of Trump’s tariff policies. Howard Lutnick, who previously served as Cantor Fitzgerald’s chairman, was a notable advocate for the administration’s tariff initiatives.
In a social media statement following her resignation, Guilfoyle expressed gratitude to President Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the opportunity to represent the United States abroad. She affirmed her continued support for them and emphasized her dedication during her tenure.
