Hermosa Beach has seen the emergence of a new dining destination that combines elements of Tunisian cuisine with California-Mediterranean influences. The restaurant, operated by Lenora Marouani and her husband Adnen, draws heavily on the flavors and culinary traditions of Tunisia, inspired by Adnen’s family heritage. The couple also run two wine bar and shop hybrids in nearby Manhattan Beach and El Segundo.
At the Hermosa Beach location, the menu prominently features dishes that reflect the sun-soaked and spice-rich character of North African cooking. Among the offerings is chicken mosli, a light tomato stew seasoned with a balance of hot and sweet spices and served over quinoa. Seafood is highlighted as well, with La Goulette mussels prepared in a broth brightened by preserved lemon, a traditional ingredient that enhances the dish’s citrus notes.
Wine also plays a significant role in the dining experience, with a selection of approximately a dozen wines available on draft. One choice, the Santola Vinho Verde, pairs well with the seafood and complements the preserved lemon used in several dishes.
In addition to Tunisian flavors, the menu includes influences from other regions, such as the American South. Examples include shrimp and fried okra served over cheese grits, and a dessert trifle layered with lemon cake and berries infused with rose water, illustrating the restaurant’s blending of diverse culinary inspirations.
The restaurant offers a distinctive addition to the Southern California dining scene by focusing on intricate, culturally rich North African cuisine alongside broader California-Mediterranean fare, meeting a demand for more representation of this region’s culinary heritage in Los Angeles.
