Turkish Airlines has announced plans to expand its presence in the Australian aviation market by introducing non-stop flights between Istanbul and Australia’s two largest cities, Sydney and Melbourne. The carrier currently operates one-stop services to Melbourne via Singapore and to Sydney via Kuala Lumpur, with a planned routing change for Sydney flights to switch to Singapore starting October 26.

The airline’s current services utilize a stopover system, but Turkish Airlines aims to launch direct flights to both cities by the end of 2027. This expansion is linked to the anticipated delivery of newly configured Airbus A350-1000 aircraft beginning in July 2027, which will enable the airline to operate these ultra-long-haul routes efficiently.

A spokesperson for Turkish Airlines confirmed the carrier’s commitment to establishing non-stop services, emphasizing that the new aircraft’s advanced range and passenger capacity will support the airline’s strategic growth in the competitive Australian market. The move comes amid increasing competition on international routes to and from Australia, as carriers seek to capture a growing demand for direct connectivity between the region and global hubs.

Currently, the Melbourne flights transit through Singapore, while Sydney services operate via Kuala Lumpur; however, the switch of Sydney flights to Singapore as a transit hub marks a consolidation strategy in anticipation of future direct routes. Turkish Airlines’ broader plan reflects an industry trend toward expanding direct long-haul offerings, aiming to enhance convenience and reduce travel times for passengers.

The airline has not specified whether these non-stop flights will operate on a daily or less frequent basis, nor have definitive schedules been released. Nevertheless, the anticipated launch by late 2027 aligns with Turkish Airlines’ ongoing fleet modernization and network expansion efforts, signifying a long-term commitment to the Australian market.
