Türkiye and Qatar have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen cooperation on regional conflicts and diplomatic initiatives, Turkish Ambassador Yakup Caymazoglu stated at a reception in Doha commemorating the 103rd anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye. The event took place on October 29, marking the founding of the republic in 1923 under Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

At the reception, Caymazoglu praised Qatar’s mediation efforts in addressing ongoing regional crises, particularly highlighting the situations in Gaza and the broader conflict involving Iran. He emphasized that Türkiye and Qatar’s partnership is grounded in a common vision and characterized by a dynamic approach to tackling regional challenges.

The ambassador cited the role of the Türkiye-Qatar Supreme Strategic Committee (SSC) as instrumental in enhancing bilateral relations. The committee’s 12th meeting, anticipated later this year in Türkiye, is expected to further boost collaborative efforts between the two countries. He underscored that the relationship extends beyond formal agreements, reflecting solidarity during times of crisis.

Caymazoglu noted examples of this solidarity, including Qatar’s support following the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye on February 6, 2023, as well as the countries’ shared experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic and the successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He described the partnership as a form of brotherhood grounded in mutual responsibility.

On regional security matters, the ambassador referenced the memorandum of understanding known as BADR, signed in Doha on October 21, 2026, by Türkiye, Qatar, Pakistan, and Indonesia. This agreement exemplifies cooperation among friendly states in addressing shared security challenges. Caymazoglu emphasized Türkiye’s recognition of its role in promoting regional stability through partnerships.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, he highlighted the alignment of Türkiye and Qatar’s positions, both advocating for a two-state solution. The ambassador pointed to statements delivered by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Qatar’s Emir at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where they underscored the importance of international law, justice, and diplomatic resolution.

Caymazoglu, who assumed his post as Türkiye’s ambassador to Qatar on September 15 and presented his credentials to the Amir on October 6, described the reception as his first Republic Day celebration in Doha. He also paid tribute to the late Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, acknowledging his leadership in advancing Qatar’s development and enhancing bilateral ties between the two nations. The event was attended by a number of Qatari ministers and members of the diplomatic and business communities.
