Jeff Brazier has spoken openly about the challenges he has faced supporting his son Freddy through a severe drug addiction that has at times led to psychotic episodes. The television presenter, 47, described the difficulties during an interview on Matt Willis’ On The Mend podcast, detailing the impact of Freddy’s condition on their family.
Brazier, who has two sons with the late Big Brother star Jade Goody—Freddy, 22, and Bobby, 23—said that Freddy's substance use would provoke episodes of psychosis, a state in which his behavior "was not his own." This sometimes led to dangerous situations, with Brazier recounting attempts to intervene, including involving the police and physically trying to prevent Freddy from using drugs. He emphasized the emotional strain of watching his son suffer from addiction while feeling powerless to break the cycle.
“For six years, the thing that’s been hardest, the most challenging, is that he would go into a form of psychosis when he used,” Brazier explained. “I’ve had to go looking for him on countless occasions and trying to bring him to safety, only for him to then flee the minute you turn your back.”
Despite efforts including rehabilitation programs and being sectioned under mental health legislation, Brazier said these measures had not been sufficient to fully address Freddy’s struggles. He stressed that he has pursued all possible avenues to support his son’s recovery.
Freddy and his father took part in the BBC’s Celebrity Race Across The World in 2024, finishing in third place. A representative for Freddy confirmed that he remains focused on his wellbeing and is committed to continuing his progress toward recovery.
