Sian Welby, the presenter known for her work on This Morning and Capital radio, has realized a childhood ambition by lending her voice to the upcoming film Toy Story 5. The 39-year-old revealed that she had dreamed of being part of the Toy Story franchise since she was ten years old and initially thought the offer to join the cast was a prank.

Welby was approached by Disney UK in early 2026 as part of a search for regional voice cameos. Alongside her co-host Jordan North, who voices a Garden Gnome in the film, she was cast to voice the Inflatable Flamingo. The movie is scheduled for release in cinemas on Friday.

Reflecting on the moment she received the call, Welby said she initially believed the invitation was a joke played by her colleagues, given their past annual tradition of sharing bucket list goals. In March, after receiving confirmation from her agent that the opportunity was genuine, she recorded her role and later interviewed Toy Story stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen ahead of the film’s premiere.

Welby described the experience of working with Hanks and Allen as surreal. Having grown up watching Tom Hanks in films like Big and Tim Allen in The Santa Clause, she said meeting them was a dream come true. She added that both actors were welcoming and warm, contrasting with some encounters she has had with other celebrities.

During the film’s red carpet events, Welby noted that Hanks treated her as a full co-star, helping ease her feelings of imposter syndrome. She described her ongoing astonishment at the developments in her career, stating she often has to “pinch herself” to believe these opportunities are real.

Welby’s journey into television began in 2010 when videos she recorded while working as a shop assistant caught the attention of former Channel 5 chief Richard Desmond. This led to her becoming the station’s lead weather presenter despite having no prior experience in broadcasting. She later hosted Channel 5’s Formula E: Street Racers program before joining Heart FM in 2017 and eventually securing her current roles.

In addition to her screen and radio work, Welby has developed friendships with several high-profile celebrities, including Kylie Minogue and Chris Pratt. She recounted a playful moment with Pratt involving a mock electric shock quiz and described her rapport with Mariah Carey during an interview last year.

Welby, who hails from Newark in Nottinghamshire, said her path from a small village in the Midlands to the entertainment industry has been “magical,” emphasizing the unexpected nature of her achievements. Her involvement in Toy Story 5 marks a significant milestone in fulfilling a dream nurtured since childhood.
