Mel Giedroyc, former host of the popular television series The Great British Bake Off, has stated that she does not watch the show, including during the years when she was a presenter. In a recent interview, Giedroyc, 58, explained that she prefers to distance herself from the programme following its move to Channel 4 in 2016, describing the era as something she has chosen to “close the door” on.

Giedroyc emphasized that her decision is not driven by any resentment but rather by personal preference, noting that she finds it difficult to watch shows in which she has appeared. “It’s part of my life that’s gone... that was then, and this is now,” she remarked.

Despite stepping away from the series, Giedroyc maintains friendly relations with key figures associated with the show, including judge Paul Hollywood and former judge Mary Berry. She also praised the decision to bring Nigella Lawson onto the judging panel, calling it “genius” and expressing enthusiasm about the new dynamics Lawson’s presence will bring.

“The Great British Bake Off is a great format, and they have kept it going absolutely brilliantly,” Giedroyc said. She suggested that the addition of Lawson could even prompt her to start watching the programme again, particularly to see the interaction between Lawson and Hollywood.

The Great British Bake Off remains a widely viewed and well-regarded show, noted for its enduring popularity and format resilience even after transitioning from the BBC to Channel 4 nearly a decade ago.
