Design Doha has announced the 20 finalists for its Design Doha Prize 2026, spotlighting exceptional design talent from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia (MENASA), and the region’s diasporas. The finalists were chosen from over 500 submissions across four categories: Craft, Product Design, Furniture Design, and Emerging Talent.
The prize, now in its second edition, aims to support designers at various stages of their careers. The winners will be revealed on November 7, 2026, at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha, marking the conclusion of the Design Doha Biennial’s opening weekend, which runs from November 5 to 7. The initiative is chaired by HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums.
An international jury of 24 members oversees the selection process, led by Iranian-French architect and designer India Mahdavi. Notable jury members include architects Frida Escobedo and Lina Ghotmeh. The finalists will present their work to the jury at MIA on November 6. Their projects reflect a combination of traditional craftsmanship and innovative responses to current challenges such as material waste, water scarcity, and sustainable production methods.
Each of the four winners will receive a prize package comprising QR200,000 (approximately USD 50,000), a two-week mentorship at the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein, Germany, and access to studio space at Liwan Design Studios and Labs in Doha for one year. Additional provisions include retail opportunities through Liberty London at Liberty Home Menshereb in Doha, along with logistical support and business mentorship from DHL.
Fahad al-Obaidly, Director of Design Doha, emphasized the prize’s role in nurturing emerging designers shaping the region’s future. He highlighted the finalists’ work as rooted in inherited craft traditions while boldly exploring new materials and sustainable approaches. India Mahdavi noted the diversity and depth of creativity across the finalists, praising their strong understanding of craftsmanship alongside innovation. She noted that the jury seeks designs that blend originality with purposeful intent and show potential to influence the future of design.
