U.S. News & World Report has released its 2026-2027 rankings of the nation’s best hospitals, highlighting several Texas medical centers among the state’s top performers. The annual report, now in its 37th year, evaluates hospitals based on their performance in various specialties, procedures, and conditions.
In the statewide rankings, Houston Methodist Hospital retained its position as Texas’ top hospital, a distinction it also held in last year’s report. The Houston-based institution also secured top 10 national rankings in multiple specialties, including gastroenterology and gastroenterological surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and cardiology as well as heart and vascular surgery.
Dallas’ UT Southwestern Medical Center ranked second overall in Texas and continued to hold the top position in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the second consecutive year. The center also earned a national top 10 spot for neurology and neurosurgery, reflecting its strong specialty care programs.
Two other Dallas-Fort Worth hospitals appeared among the state’s best, with Baylor University Medical Center sharing the third spot with Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. Additionally, Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center in Houston rounded out the top five, marking three Houston-area hospitals in the state’s top tier.
Several Texas hospitals also received recognition in national specialty rankings. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston was ranked No. 1 in the nation for cancer care and placed No. 6 nationally for urology. TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston earned the No. 4 spot in rehabilitation, while Baylor Scott and White Institute for Rehabilitation-Dallas was ranked No. 9 in the same specialty. Houston Methodist also featured in multiple national specialty categories, holding top 10 positions in gastroenterology and GI surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and cardiology and heart surgery.
The U.S. News & World Report rankings cover a broad range of specialties beyond the top 10 and include 38 Texas hospitals recognized as “Best Regional Hospitals.” The full listings allow users to explore hospital performance by specialty, procedure, condition, and location.
