Two people have died and one person remains missing following heavy rainfall and flooding in Catalonia, northeastern Spain, officials reported on Sunday.
Salvador Illa, the president of the Catalan government, confirmed the death of a man in Tordera, a town located north of Barcelona, after a wall collapsed. The incident was announced via Illa’s social media account.
Separately, firefighters reported the death of another individual in Montornès del Vallès, an area also situated near Barcelona. Emergency responders continue search operations for a missing person in Pineda de Mar, approximately 52 kilometers north of the regional capital.
The flooding occurred after days of intense rain that caused widespread disruptions across the region. Authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant as the situation remains precarious in some areas. No further details about the missing person’s condition have been released.
