Two crew members died following a fire aboard an oil products tanker off the coast of the Republic of Korea, authorities reported. The incident occurred on Thursday on a 7,333-ton vessel carrying 18 crew members, including seven foreign nationals, according to the Coast Guard.

The fire reportedly originated in the engine room, where the two victims were found deceased. The remaining 16 crew members were safely rescued by the Coast Guard. The tanker was located in waters near Incheon at the time of the incident.

Firefighting efforts successfully extinguished the blaze by approximately 4 a.m. on Friday. Officials indicated that the fire did not spread to the ship’s oil cargo tanks, reducing the risk of a larger environmental hazard. Investigations into the cause of the fire remain ongoing.
