Two men have been arrested in Middlesbrough following a vehicle-ramming incident on Sunday night, eight days after a fatal head-on collision on the A66 motorway that claimed the lives of seven people, including two police officers. Cleveland Police confirmed the suspects, aged 19 and 24, were taken into custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. Both remain held as investigations continue.

The latest incident occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday, involving one vehicle ramming another in the Middlesbrough area. This follows extensive efforts by Cleveland Police, which have seen a total of 27 arrests linked to the ongoing probe into serious and organized crime related to the August 22 crash. The initial collision involved a Volkswagen vehicle driving into oncoming traffic, resulting in the deaths of PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough, alongside five other men.

In addition to these arrests, an 18-year-old man has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving after being observed driving recklessly in Middlesbrough on Saturday. The individual was remanded in custody pending further proceedings.

Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Fox reiterated the force’s commitment to tackling serious crime in the region, stating that the arrests demonstrate ongoing efforts to disrupt those involved in organized criminal activities. To support these operations, approximately 200 officers from outside Cleveland Police have been deployed to assist the local force.

Law enforcement teams, including armed officers and a dog unit, conducted searches in Grangetown, a neighborhood near Middlesbrough, as part of the arrests. Community responses include fundraising efforts to support the families of the fallen officers, notably raising over £1.1 million to date.

Investigations remain active as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision and the subsequent escalation of related violent incidents in the area.
