Two juvenile peregrine falcons were sold for a combined total of 182,000 Saudi riyals (approximately $48,500) during the 14th night of the National Center for Falcons Auction 2026, held as part of a series running through November 30. The auction, a prominent event in Saudi Arabia’s falconry community, attracts trappers and collectors from across the kingdom.
The first juvenile peregrine falcon, captured in the Al-Dibdiba area by a group of six falcon trappers, went for 101,000 riyals after bidding started at 50,000 riyals. A second juvenile peregrine, sourced from Al-Hunayy in Al-Ahsa and caught by Mansour Al-Mutairi and Abdulmajeed Al-Harbi, was sold for 81,000 riyals.
The National Center for Falcons restricts the auction to juvenile migratory peregrine falcons that have been captured within Saudi Arabia. Adult peregrines and saker falcons are excluded from sales as part of conservation measures aimed at protecting wild populations and maintaining genetic diversity.
This two-month auction series serves as a platform for falcon trappers and buyers to engage in competitive bidding, with the center coordinating bird submissions from various regions. In addition to managing the auction logistics, the center provides services including arranging accommodation and transportation for participants. The bidding sessions are also broadcast on television and streamed via social media, allowing wider engagement from falconry enthusiasts unable to attend in person.
The current season has seen several notable high-value sales. On the eighth night, a juvenile peregrine named Umm Khansar fetched 375,000 riyals, while another bird called Al-Hilwah was sold for 221,000 riyals.
Beyond auction activities, the National Center for Falcons offers comprehensive veterinary services aimed at supporting falcon health and welfare. These services include diagnostic imaging, laboratory testing, and screening for viral and bacterial infections, helping owners monitor and maintain the well-being of their birds.
The center also plays a role in falcon conservation through initiatives such as falcon release programs and scientific research. These efforts are designed to safeguard wild falcon populations and promote the preservation of falcon species across Saudi Arabia.
