A court in Netrokona has ordered the detention of two men following their arrest in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 37-year-old woman in Durgapur upazila. The accused, Hasibul Hasan, 25, and Hafizul Hasan Rabbi, 26, both from the Madhyabazar area, were presented before the Netrokona Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Thursday evening, which directed that they be remanded in custody.
According to Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khandakar Shaker Ahmed, local residents initially attempted to resolve the matter through arbitration. Following a report to authorities, police intervened, arrested the two suspects, and are currently seeking to apprehend a third accused, Ashik Mia, 26, who remains at large.
The victim, employed at a garment factory in Dhaka, had returned to her village residence on October 19. Her husband works as a mason in the capital. The incident reportedly occurred around 12:10 a.m. on October 22, when three local men knocked on her door. Upon opening, the woman was allegedly dragged into an adjacent kitchen where the assault took place. Family members and neighbors responded to her cries, causing the assailants to flee the scene.
Authorities continue efforts to locate the remaining suspect while the legal process proceeds against those in custody.
