Two teenage girls have been arrested in Riverside County on suspicion of plotting a mass shooting at a local high school, authorities said. The alleged plot came to light after the FBI notified the Corona Police Department of threatening discussions targeting Corona High School, prompting law enforcement action.

The initial arrest occurred on Oct. 6, when officials took into custody a 15-year-old girl following reports of online conversations that suggested a potential attack. Subsequent investigation led to the identification and arrest of a second 15-year-old girl who attends Norco High School. Both teens are believed to have spent several months researching past school shootings and discussing plans to carry out an attack.

According to a police statement, the two suspects had communicated about methods to obtain weapons, though investigators did not find any firearms during searches of the teenagers’ homes and electronic devices. Both remain in custody on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder as the Riverside County district attorney’s office reviews the case.

Authorities have not released any details regarding the motive behind the alleged plot or whether specific individuals or groups were targeted in the discussions. The investigation is ongoing and involves coordinated efforts between the FBI, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, and the Corona-Norco Unified School District.

FBI Director Kash Patel emphasized the importance of preventing violence in schools, stating that the potential attack was disrupted before any harm was done. “There is no greater priority than protecting our kids, and threats against our schools will be met with the full force of the FBI and our partners,” Patel said, expressing gratitude for the work of local law enforcement agencies involved in the case.
