The Ministry of Education has implemented new regulations requiring students to complete any transfers between academic streams within the first two weeks of the 2026-2027 school year. This policy aims to streamline the transfer process and ensure proper assessment and monitoring of student progress following a change in academic track.

Under the revised framework, all transfer requests will be subject to a series of criteria, including academic eligibility reviews, counseling sessions involving both students and parents, and a review of admission requirements. Transfers will also require official approval from educational authorities, and students’ academic performance will be monitored continuously after the transfer is completed.

The new rules differentiate between voluntary and eligibility-based transfers among the advanced, general, and applied streams. Students currently enrolled in the advanced stream may opt to move voluntarily to the general stream at designated grade levels without restricting conditions. Conversely, transfers from the general stream to the advanced stream will be limited to students in Grades 8 and 9 who have secured a minimum of 80 percent in English, mathematics, and science in the prior academic year.

Transfers from the applied stream to the general stream will no longer be permitted under the new policy. Additionally, students in Grades 10 and 11 within the general stream will be ineligible to transfer into the advanced stream due to academic prerequisites.

These updated measures reflect the Ministry’s effort to maintain rigorous academic standards while providing structured mobility between educational tracks based on student performance and readiness.
