Typhoon Bavi made landfall in China’s eastern Zhejiang province on July 12, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall to the region. This storm follows closely on the heels of another typhoon that affected parts of China just over a week ago. Prior to making landfall in China, Bavi also impacted Japan’s southern islands and Taiwan, causing significant weather disturbances.
Authorities in Zhejiang reported that the typhoon is expected to gradually weaken as it moves inland, though officials remain vigilant given the potential for flooding and other storm-related hazards. Emergency services have been mobilized to respond to any incidents arising from Bavi’s effects.
Separately, in the Dominican Republic, a large fire broke out at a hotel in the coastal resort town of Bayahibe, resulting in one fatality. Nearly 1,700 tourists were evacuated from the premises as a precaution to ensure their safety. Emergency responders also played a critical role during the incident, aiding in the evacuation and providing medical assistance. Three individuals were transported to local medical facilities for treatment, while six others received care at the scene. The victims included hotel guests, visitors, and first responders involved in managing the emergency. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.
