Irish rock band U2 is set to release its first full-length album of new material in nearly a decade with the 12-track collection titled "Carnaval De Luz," scheduled for release on November 13. The album, U2’s 16th studio effort, will include a duet with country music icon Dolly Parton, marking what a representative has confirmed as Parton’s final recorded vocal performance.
Produced by longtime collaborator Jacknife Lee, who has worked with U2 since 2004, "Carnaval De Luz" features a mix of musical styles. The Edge, the band’s guitarist, described the project as a “messy, provocative, sacred collection of songs,” while lead singer Bono highlighted the presence of “loud guitars, deep bass, some ecstatic rhythms” on the record.
The new album’s lead single, "Street of Dreams," was released in July, followed recently by another track titled "Silencio." The closing track, "Torn," is performed as a duet with Parton and was co-written by U2, Parton, and Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol. The song is characterized as a tender country ballad exploring themes of fractured family relationships that resonate on a broader emotional level.
This release coincides with U2’s 50th anniversary as a band. While the group has not issued a full album in several years, it has put out two six-song EPs, "Days of Ash" and "Easter Lily," timed around the Christian observances of Ash Wednesday and Easter, respectively.
The album cover features the four members—Bono, The Edge, drummer Larry Mullen Jr., and bassist Adam Clayton—walking along a beach in single file. Bono leads the group wearing a top hat and black coat, in a nod to the iconic Beatles "Abbey Road" album cover.
