The United Arab Emirates has reiterated its support for diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving conflicts in the Middle East, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation, dialogue, and adherence to international law. In a statement delivered to the United Nations General Assembly, Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, UAE Minister of State, outlined a comprehensive foreign policy agenda focused on peaceful dispute resolution, regional stability, economic growth, and enhanced international cooperation.
Al Marar described the current regional and global landscape as one of rapid change, growing challenges, and increasing divisions. He condemned the unlawful use or threat of force, underscoring respect for state sovereignty, good-neighborly relations, international law, and the UN Charter as foundational principles for addressing conflicts.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, the minister reaffirmed the UAE’s early endorsement of an international framework to end what he characterized as a “horrific war” in the enclave. He called for the full implementation of US President Donald Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to End the Conflict in Gaza, urging Israel’s withdrawal from the territory, the disarmament of Hamas, and progress toward a political resolution. Al Marar emphasized the necessity of a just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state coexisting peacefully alongside Israel.
Al Marar also stressed the importance of unifying Gaza and the West Bank under a reformed and capable Palestinian Authority, which would hold exclusive responsibility for governance and control over weapons. This, he argued, is essential for achieving stability and a coherent political future for Palestinians.
Turning to developments in the West Bank, the minister highlighted concerns over escalating Israeli actions, including settlement expansion, increasing settler violence, and the isolation of Palestinian communities. He also condemned ongoing violations in East Jerusalem and at holy sites, as well as attempts to impose new historical and legal realities, describing these measures as deeply troubling.
The UAE’s longstanding commitment to the Palestinian people remains evident through its role as the largest donor of humanitarian aid to Gaza and its support for humanitarian and development initiatives in the West Bank. Al Marar attributed this commitment to the fundamental values that guide UAE foreign policy, including international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians in conflict zones.
In his address, Al Marar called for sustained international partnerships to underpin humanitarian efforts and conflict resolution, reinforcing the UAE’s position as an active player in seeking peace and stability in the region.
